Do not buy a title. Define the missing responsibility.
Fractional leadership is useful when technology decisions repeatedly cross business priorities, vendors, budgets, risk, and change-and no current role has the mandate or capacity to keep those choices connected.
It is less useful when the immediate need is a well-defined implementation, responsive end-user support, a specialist opinion, or a permanent executive who must lead a large internal function every day.
The right starting point may be smaller than an ongoing relationship. One decision brief or roadmap engagement can test whether recurring ownership is actually needed.
